A particular hobby that I am really am really into is skateboarding. Skateboarding is helpful for me because it keeps me active and in-shape. I have made a lot of friends while skateboarding throughout the years and plan on making more. Skateboarding is an action sport which involves riding and performing tricks using a skateboard. 

      Skateboarding can also be considered a recreational activity, an art form or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been shaped and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. It is very modern too, since the 1970s skateparks have been constructed specially by the use of skateboards.

      Skateboarding was probably born sometime in the late 1940s and 1950s when surfers in california wanted to surf something when the waves were flat. The first skateboards started with either wooden boxes or boards with roller skate wheels attached to them. 

      The boxes turned in planks then eventually companies started forming skateboard decks. I ride my skateboard everyday for many reasons. I plan of skateboarding the rest of my life because it gets me through a lot of stress when I just feel like doing what I want to do.

career day

Career day was helpful for me because I got to hear from five different people about how their jobs are, or how to get them. So yes I thought it was very interesting. I like the presentation by Dr. Markel the best because she achully told the student secrets about OCC and other community colleges in the area. Instead of just talking about the job or college you are from. I did not like the electrical engineers presentation because I had no interest in electrical. I also didn't like it because they had strobe lights in the back that made me dizzy. I do not have a career goal as of right now because I'm not really in the position to have a job. I do not have a car yet and I am only 16. What I'm doing to find out what career I want is I'm talking to more and more of my older friends that are in college and finding out whats interesting. Even though I don't have a job for the school year I think I want to take this summer off and have fun! After high school I either plan on going to Santa Monica community college or Orange Coast college. I will defiantly have a job by the time I'm in college.

3 wishes

My first wish would be to be a senior, not a junior. I would wish for that because all of my friends are seniors. I only have a few friends in my whole grade. This year a ton of my friends are leaving for college and I don't really know what id do without them. I wish I was a senior so I can just skip the whole stressful, boring year and go to college with my friends.

   My second wish would be to get 5 million dollars for free. I would only choose 5 million or less because if you have more then that its most likely going to charity or your going to buy every stupid little thing you see. I would want to pay off my parents taxes and bills. I would also definitely buy myself a car. I would buy myself an R8 audi.

   My third wish would be to have a concrete skatepark built in my backyard. Having a skatepark in your own house is every kids dream. I would want a skatepark in my back yard because I skate everyday and that would be very time consuming considering all my friends are leaving for college this summer. I would be skating from 10 in the morning till 10 at night. Besides that there aren't much other things I would wish for. A skatepark, a car and being a senior would do it for me.

role model

The only real alive role model I have right now would definitely be my dad. My dad has shown me how to do a lot of thing such as being strong and don't feel alone. When my dad was 5 months old he lost his mom to a heart attack and lost his dad at age 12 to cancer. 

I couldn't ever imagine how difficult life would be without parents, but what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. He is my one and only role model because he is the strongest man I know and he has been through more things then I could even imagine.

     Besides that I don't really have any other role models. If anything I am my own role model. Some traits you that are important to me and to be used everyday is always think of the best possible thing, and most of the time those best possible things will happen to yoU. 

 Other traits of people I would look up to would definitely be someone who accepts whats given and someone that takes other point of view. In conclusion my dad is my biggest role model and will always be .

domestic violence

During this assembly I wasn't paying much attention because none of that topic had to do with me. In the presentation she talked about "red lights" to beatings. It defiantly showed us how much we didn't even know about domestic violence or how much it happens. Before this presentation I didn't how big of a problem It is or how much people make a big deal out of it.
     First, I didn't believe a lot of the things she said such as that 1 in four people are going through domestic violence issues. Or the rest of the statistics she was saying. I didn't feel like a lot of them were true but just more to persuade us about how bad the topic is. I did feel bad for her when she said she experimented a lot of domestic violence when she was young, going in detail of how and when this happened.
     Second, I liked how she talked about the warning signs of domestic violence or what to look out for, because It gave the kids to think about there personal life. A lot of the rest I didn't really listen because It was mostly statistics  that I thought were completely wrong. I also didn't like how she said get your parents involved but a lot of the times getting your parent involved will just make things worse.

     Third, I was very surprised when she started showing all the girls who have died due to domestic violence. What was even more scary is that those all happened in this county too. So it proves it happens everywhere.

My summer vacation

This summer I want to do A lot of things, but the 3 big things I plan on doing this summer is going to Europe, going to the beach a lot and skateboard a lot during the summer. I plan on living up this summer as much as I can because next year, when all of my very good friends are off in college I will no longer have anything to do. So I plan on making this the best summer yet.                                            

     First, this summer my parents really wanted to go to Europe and a bunch of countries. They want to go for 14 days, which is two weeks. Once I heard that, my whole mind changed from "stoked" to "not stoked". I went to Hawaii last summer for 10 days and that was very fun and I was very glad to get out of Newport Beach for a bit. After the 5th day I definatly changed my mind about the whole trip. I realized I couldn't stay away from Newport for more then a week. So after talking about it with my parents were still debating weather I go or stay home.

Second, what I want to do a majority of the summer is going to the beach and go body boarding. Summer is the only time of year where you can trunk it and not be freezing your butt off. So I like to take advantage of that as much as I can. I have so many good memories from being down a A street or Wedge and going to great mex everyday. I also love the vibe of the beach when a bunch of tourists come to town ha. 

Lastly, I plan on skateboard a bunch also. They have recently taken away my favorite skatepark around, Mariners skatepark. So for now on me and my friends need to find another place where we can skateboard and have fun. I just got a new deck yesterday so while i'm not at the beach ill be planning on skating every day I possibly can.

My happiest place

There are a lot of places that I would like to call my favorite place on earth, but the one place that stands out is Mariners skatepark. I love this place so much because ever since it opened in 2008 I have skating it everyday. When I mean everyday, I mean everyday. In the summers instead of going to the beach id skate from my house over to the skatepark, which was about 2 or 3 miles from my home. I learned so many tricks on transition just from practicing day after day. The reason Mariners is my happiest place on earth is because it bring me and all my friends together to skateboard and compete and have fun. Mariners has recently been torn down due to the loudness and trashiness in the church so their replacing it with a fireplace.. Ever since mariners has been in existence me and all of my friends have been there skating everyday making memories. Now I need to make a new happiest place of earth because it is no longer in existence.

Depression, wanting to fit in, and stress are the top 3 i think, bullying should be there too. Drugs Alcohol and Sex are more in with the older teen population. Separated home/ parents going through a divorce isn't that big i don't think, not in the top 10 anyway. But stress and depression are really up their. Going through puberty teens suffer from sometimes stress or depression because of either how school is going or how your personal life is going. For communities to help kids with a lot of stress and anxiety teachers should cut down on homework. Over the past 50 years, depression has become more common and is now recognized at increasingly younger ages. As the rate of depression rises, so does the teen suicide rate. Mental health professionals advise parents to be aware of signs of depression in their children.

Assignment 23 current event

The current event I researched on is about a man named Michael Sanchez who was found in the wilderness unconscious. The mans family said he has been missing for over a week. They said they made a missing persons report after he failed to show up at a relatives funeral.
      Police officials says he was found in a dense thicket of brush and trees below the on and off-ramps along highway 101 in San Jose. Police had already previously searched the area the man was found in and did not find anyone somehow until 1 week later. Twenty five year old Michael Sanchez of San Jose is in critical condition at the hospital.
     Sanchez was last seen on May 8th, the same day investigators say his car was towed after a single vehicle rollover. After reading this article it make me want to put my seatbelt on every time I get into a car.

assignment 22

The blog I researched is called The Animal Blog. The whole blogs contains about every animal you can think of. I like this blog because I like animals and cool pictures of animals. Another reason why is because it is very neat which is easy for anyone to look and like the blog their viewing. Another reason why is because it tells you facts about every animal that I know I didn't know before. Such as how they feed and how their evolution started. What I don't like about it is it looks like the blog was made by a girl not a boy. I don't like it partly because it has too many girly aspects about it such as the writing. Which its harder for a guy to relate to a girls blog. What I would do to make it different is I would make categories of animals. Such as land animals and water animals, flying animals or land animals.

assignment-motivation

The motivation traits I possess are "Having extraordinary purpose", "Are willing to take risks", "Are Humble", "Possess an attitude of success", " Strive for health in all aspects of their lives" and Rise above adversity. I do not possess "Are committed to a life long learning", "Are persistent" and "Are energetic". Im not any of these traits because they all seem too fast paced and Im not fast paced, but not slow paced either.
      The way i'm going to achieve my dream is by following these traits and substitute them into real life situations. The way Im going to stay motivated is by following my motivation trait and applying them to my life. I cant think of a more powerful source of motivation than a cause you have to  care about yourself.

      The way I keep myself motivated is to be your own boss sometimes and make everything in my day how I want it. You must be able to keep your high spirit high no matter how discouraging a situation is. Those who are discouraged in difficult times are certain to lose even before the battle is over.

The one thing that interests me that I love a lot is skateboarding. I love skateboarding because I personally think its the funnest land activity in my eyes. I started skateboarding when I was only 4 years old. MY neighbor was the first one to show me how to skateboard. If it wasn't for him I doubt I would have even stepped on a skateboard till I was way older. When I skateboard it brings me such joy sometime but other times it can bring trips to the hospital.

      For instance i've broken my arm two times from skateboarding. Even though it brings great pain its still a lot of fun. I cant even imagine what I would be doing if i didn't skateboard or what hobbies I would be into , but i'm glad I chose skateboarding. It has also taught me a lot about myself such as my confidence and in a way has brought my maturity. If skateboarding wasn't in my life I don't know what I would do with my life.

Of all the movie on this website, to me I think the movie "Blow" is one of the most interesting. Its a crazy story about how George Jung claims that he smuggled 85% of americas cocaine in the late 1970's. In Robert Ebert's passage he claims that George Jung life is monotonous and disappointing. In my opinion his life is exciting and all over the place he just get caught up. By the rate of stars Robert gave this movie, I can tell he didn't like it as much as I did, I think it deserves 3 and a half stars.

If I were a celebrity with a lot of money the charity I would choose to donate to would be (MADD)
Mothers Against Drunk Driving. Candy Lightner founded MADD in 1980 after her daughter Cari, was killed by a repeat drunk driving offender. MADD has done numbers thing for our country such as changing the drinking age to 21 and they started the victim impact panel program.

    This organization is important to me because my cousin was killed in a drunk driving accident when he was just 22, and I would like to help out the organization and make it possible to drive without drunk people on the road. Again why I would like to give money to them is because MADD has evolved into one of the most widely supported and well liked non profit organization in the world.

assingment 18 being charitable

I would donate my 1 million dollars on the Marijuana Policy Project foundation. MPP pursues its work along two paths, making medical marijuana medically available to patients in need, and taxing and regulating marijuana for general adult use.

   This organization is important for me because my uncle has Glaucoma and he used medical marijuana daily for his condition. This organization makes it possible for those who need their medicine to get it.In my opinion California need to change state law to legalize medical marijuana and or regulate marijuana.

I do not smoke cigarettes. I have a ton of friends who smoke cigarettes but I will never choose to start myself on smoking cigarettes. Both my Aunt and Uncle have smoked basically their whole lives. They started when they were 16 or 17, and have just now been able to quit 40 some odd years later. They have showed me how bad it is long term on your body and how it effects your skin and teeth. My overall opinion of cigarette smoking is its over- rated and too many people of the new generation have started already.

assignment 16

I found the article very interesting on how the crime and violence rate dropped 3% in Maine in 2011. A lot of these facts surprise me such as how people pay 3,257 per year on violence and violence containment. When Im choosing a place to live I will be sure to look into the crime rate, death rate and etc. I would never consider living in Maine after knowing these facts about the violence rate. I wouldn't want to live there because of how many people dying a year and the crime rate for sure.

Assignment 14

If I chose anywhere in the world where I wanted to go right this second, It would probably be Barcelona. I would choose to travel there because they have some of the greatest skateboard spots in the world!

      All formed into unique marble or concrete structures. If I were with Richard Branson I would have him pay the city off so I can skate the city. Barcelona has been one of the worlds skate capitals for as long as skateboarding has been around I'm sure. Every surface or object in Barcelona  is made either out of smooth marble or concrete which is more than perfect for skateboarding.

     Barcelona has always been one of the places I've wanted to travel too. In every skate video that I see that's takes place in Barcelona has some of the most unique things to skate. Another reason I would want to go there is because the drinking age is 18. Barcelona is located in Spain and the drinking age anywhere in Europe is 18.
   In all I probably couldn't think of anywhere else I would want to go where id have more fun than in Barcelona. While I was over there I would want Mr. Branson to tour me all over Europe too. Those are some reasons why I would want to go to Barcelona.

Assignment 13 - My spring break

During my nine day break from school I did quite a lot. The three things I did was went skateboarding, went to LA, and hung out at friends houses, and slept in a bunch!

         First, one of the funnest things I did over my break was going skateboarding. Over the nine days I've gone to Volcom skatepark, venice beach skatepark, and mariners skatepark and all three were amazingly fun. Every time I went skating I always had a good time because id be with all of my friends. Over the break I also helped my friend make a manuel pad and a quarter pipe to skate at his house which was very time consuming. I basically didn't go anywhere this break without my skateboard.

         Secondly, Me and about 4 of my good friends drove up to LA and went to Roscoes chicken and waffles. We all woke up that morning and thought there would be nothing better to do so we did it! It ended up taking two hours to get there because of rain, and two and a half to get back. So going to eat basically took all whole day of sunlight. But very worth it.

         At last, the remainder of the time of this break I was either at a friends house or my house. Everyday at around 7 or 8 I would end up at someones house to hangout. By then I probably had already been skating all day so id just hangout for the rest of the night with my friends until I have to go home around midnight. Then I would make sure to sleep in a lot because I usually wake up very early.

assignment 9 My dream school

After High School my dream college would probably be San Francisco Art Institute. The reason I would choose this school Is because I want to take up either printmaking or painting. Ever since I was very little my mom has been into printmaking and making her own pictures. I have watched her over the years and it has for sure grown onto me. Second I love painting pictures. I have been drawing/painting for as long as I can remember. I love expressing myself with colors and pictures.

assignment 7 immediate goals

After I graduate I want to go to a community college to study graphic design or something else that interests me. The colleges I have in mind are Orange Coast College or Santa Barbara Community College . I don't know where I see myself in 5 years but for now I just need to finish High School. For my senior year I plan to get very good grades and try my hardest because It sure depends on where you will go to college.
   When I get out of High School is when I plan on getting my first job. I plan either to work at a store that involves skateboards or surfboards. Such as Jacks surf shop or jacks garage, or active. I am willing to work enough so I can move out and buy a car of my own.

   Next, After I get out of High School the first place I want to go Is the beach, then community college. I plan on either going to OCC or SBCC. I have heard great things about both school so I am pretty determined on my options. I have high hopes about going to SBCC though.
I think I would rather go there than OCC because I have stayed in Santa Barbara for a weekend and I can totally picture myself going there in two years. I only want a few classes for my first semester so I can hangout and have some freedom before I have to go back to school everyday. But until then Im focusing on my junior and senior year of High School.

assignment 5 my time at Back Bay High School

I arrived at Back Bay High School in 2011 of my sophomore year. I have been going here now for about 1 year and I very much enjoy this school. I came from Halstroms High School, but even before that I came from Corona del Mar High School. I like Back Bay a lot more then both of those schools because it is a very disclosed and small area to be taught which makes it easier.

      First, One of my favorite things about Back Bay would have to be P.E. In our P.E class you were able to either play basketball, kickball, flag football, or just simply walk around. Every single day I would look forward to P.E because you were able to get outside for an hour. P.E is where I sort of came out of my bubble and made friends and had a good time at school.

      Second, Another one of my favorite things about Back Bay High School is the way they run their system. Back Bay is the only high school I know of with no homework at all. Also there is less then half of the people here at Back Bay then there are at such schools like Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor. Which makes it especially easier to learn. Since i've been here i've made up an unbelievable amount of credits for me to go back to CDM. Because of all of Back Bay High Schools help I am looking at 4 to even 3 periods for my senior year which is incredible!

      Some, of the things I will miss about Back Bay will be the kids and the staff. Even since i've been here i've met a lot of cool people and especially teachers that say they will help me on my senior project next year. When I go back to Cdm I will for sure remember all the good times and teachers I was lucky to have while I was there.

Assignment 3 Your favorite things

Some of my favorite things to do is skateboard. When i get home from school one of the first things I do is jump on my skateboard and go to the skatepark. I've been riding skateboards since I was about 4, so everywhere I go i basically have to have my skateboard with me at all time. The reason I skateboarding so much is because it brings me at ease and joy whether Im riding down the street or at a skatepark. 

My second favorite thing to do is bodyboard. I love bodyboarding because I love the ocean. I go bodyboarding about once a week now because its winter. But In the summer i will be in the water everyday. The reason I like bodyboarding so much is because in my mind its similar to skateboarding in a way but its on a wave. I expect myself to keep up these habits for as long as I live.

My name is Jeff Meyer and I am in 11th grade and go to Back Bay HS.
I am current 16 years old and have 1 sister and a mom and a dad.On my free time I like to skateboard and hangout with friends while I can. After HS I plan on going to a community college such as OCC for my first two years. After college I plan to travel a lot, because I love traveling and going to places I've never been before.
